Antidote is home to the best new alternative music in the UK and beyond—a celebration of independence, innovation, and artists who don’t just push boundaries but reduce them to rubble. This week sees the welcome return of Wolf Alice with their massive track “Bloom Baby Bloom.” “We recorded it in LA with [producer] Greg Kurstin [Miley Cyrus, Liam Gallagher, and Foo Fighters] who was an absolute joy to work with and is probably the best musician I’ve ever witnessed,” guitarist Joff Oddie tells Apple Music. The track’s a teaser from forthcoming new album The Clearing, the band’s first since 2021’s Blue Weekend, and Oddie is excited to get it out there. “It’s hands down my favourite Wolf Alice album,” he says. “Theo [Ellis, bassist] slaps some double bass at one point, Joel [Amey, drummer] spent a long time perfecting how to make the perfect horse percussion noises, and Ellie [Rowsell, singer and guitarist] wrote some of her best songs ever. I got to do a solo. It’s got happy and sad and fun and serious moments.” Wolf Alice is about to play a handful of surprise gigs at intimate venues in Ireland and the band understands only too well the pressures on artists starting out. “The grassroots sector in the UK is having a bit of a hard time at the moment, so I would definitely urge people to get out there and support your local small venues and also emergent artists as well,” says Oddie. “It’s never been harder to get out on the road and collectively we need to think of new and innovative ways of supporting emergent talent. We have such a rich history of music in the UK and we risk losing important voices if we fail to support the grassroots ecosystem.” There’s plenty of new music on the playlist this week, with the latest tracks from Obongjayar, Florence Road, and Nova Twins. Like all the artists featured, Antidote is always evolving—so keep checking back, and if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
