London producer, composer and DJ Peshay was deep in the mix of things in 1993. “It was a pivotal year for drum ’n’ bass and jungle,” he tells Apple Music about this mix. “You can hear the early production methods starting to emerge as the genre started to take shape. I was playing some memorable gigs around that time too: Dance Paradise [at Tiffany’s in Great Yarmouth] and The Edge [formerly The Eclipse in Coventry] come to mind. There was such a good feeling around, so many good parties around the country—and with all the great new music that was being made, new raves and club nights were kicking off everywhere.” This nostalgic retrospective reflects the new directions the drum ’n’ bass sound was beginning to take, as Peshay taps into 1993’s atmospheric, hardcore styles—with tracks from jungle titans including Boogie Times Tribe and Studio Pressure. “It was a historic period for the music,” he says. “This is my tribute to those times.”
