Inspired By Jane - EP

“Growing up, I always noticed a consistent theme in nature preservation and animal care, and it was Dr. Jane Goodall,” Bishop Briggs tells Apple Music, speaking about her admiration for the legendary zoologist—who’s also the inspiration behind the Apple TV+ Original series Jane. “It was the biggest honor to be able to write a song where I could try my best to embody her spirit and all the incredible work she had done for the planet.” To celebrate Earth Day and the final season of Jane, Briggs and others contributed to this compilation. Read on for their thoughts on their songs and what Earth Day means to them. Bishop Briggs, “In Your Eyes” “I’m such a huge fan of Dr. Jane Goodall. To be able to be a part of something like this that honors her in such a specific way has been such a big, important moment in my musical life and career. It felt really important to focus on what I feel as though I’ve picked up on from Dr. Jane Goodall’s work. [This song is] meant to be a little warm blanket that describes the connection between humans and animals, and also talks about how much more we have to do as a society, and how much more we have to do for this precious environment that we’re living in.” Leonie Biney, “Endless Day” “Earth Day is actually my mum’s birthday, so when I told her about this opportunity, she was like, ‘You have to do it.’ So, I’ve done it for my mum, but also because I care a lot about our Earth and the environment. We only have one planet, and I think that we should take care of it.” Lily Meola, “Welcome Home” “I think Earth Day is the most important holiday that we get to celebrate. Gives us a moment to zoom out and really look at the bigger picture. I mean, without this place, we wouldn’t have a home, and I think we sometimes take that for granted, and so I think we should start treating every day like Earth Day. I feel so lucky to have been able to be a part of this project. The Jane series is such a beautiful, amazing way to inspire and educate this next generation.” Nightly, “Everything Can Change” “We felt really inspired by Jane and to be a part of this project, because we care about our Earth and the environment—it’s all that we have. We try to take whatever steps that we can to be conscious of it. On our last album, we used vinyl that was made from other vinyl that was otherwise going to be thrown out and combined them together to make interesting and unique colors. There are always creative ways that you can do stuff to help protect and preserve the environment. If everyone just takes a small step every day, we think that will lead to a much larger impact.” Tash Sultana, “Ride” “As a musician and a lover of the ocean—I am also a surfer—I feel particularly compassionate about protecting our reefs and protecting our oceans. You don’t really have to go that far to see the devastation cast from human negligence: Our reefs all over the world are dying, and we are overfishing our oceans. It needs to stop.”
