blame the chat

DDG has built his career on the mic and online, powering up his biggest singles with a relentless presence as a streamer—seemingly always available to his fans. On blame the chat, DDG’s first album since 2023’s Maybe It’s Me…, he takes the rapping part of his career more seriously than ever before, turning in cuts that move from club anthems to contemplative meditations on love versus lust. Take the R&B-leaning “what i prefer”, which finds the Michigan-born rapper pining for a woman who values in-person experience over the virtual facade that dominates so much of the world. “I need a stay-at-home girl, yeah/Not-always-in-her-phone girl,” he croons, showcasing a knack for turning each line of his verses into catchy melodies. Elsewhere, he moves towards Jersey club and pluggnb on “man on a mission”, teaming up with Kyle Richh of 41 and NLE Choppa for a bass-heavy banger. Despite prolonged sections of maturation throughout the project, DDG is still inclined to let material goods do the heavy lifting when he raps: “I spent a bag when I barely had knew you.” Love is nice, but money talks.
